The Nittany Leathernecks Detachment serves as a project leader in the annual Centre County United Way Day of Caring Program. This event occurs during September or October. The detachment's traditional project includes the restocking of food at the State College Food Bank which is located at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 208 W. Foster (across from State College High School Memorial Football Stadium). The project leader for this event is Greg Johnson, who can be reached at 814-234-6093. Other detachment United Way Day of Caring projects have included support for the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC). The detachment has painted the facility and also added a basement stairwell covering. Here we see Marine Jack Bechdel working on the project. To date, however, the detachment's principal Day of Caring project remains supporting the State College Area Food Bank. |
