Now this is the Law of the Jungle-
as told and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper,
but the Wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk
the Law runneth forward and back -
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf,
and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
Rudyard Kipling, Second Jungle Book

This site is dedicated
to the brave warriors of Marine Fighter Squadron 112 who served with honor and distinction at Guadalcanal during World War II. As the march of time thins the ranks of the Wolf Pack, it is important that the legacy be preserved. |
This site has been created and established by the
wives, sons, daughters, and grandchildren of the Wolf Pack so
that their memory will endure. This site is for anyone
interested in the story of VMF-112 during its three tours of combat at Guadalcanal.
Stories, biographies, news clippings, mementos, memoirs, photos
and documents, etc are enclosed.
We actively solicit additional
material of that nature in order to more fully preserve the
history of a determined group of young men who answered their
country's call in order to champion peace and democracy.
If
you have questions or desire to submit material to this site, please contact Greg Johnson at gjj26@comcast.net.

About the VMF-112 Squadron Name
Marine squadrons were designated alphanumerically to identify the squadron's role and organization. The first letter "V" stood for "Heavier-than-air,", as opposed to "Z" which stood for Lighter-than-air, i.e. dirigibles. The second letter "M" meant Marine Corps. The third letter indicated the purpose of the squadron. Thus, Marine Fighting Squadrons were identified by VMF.
