Summary: Attended aviation
Class "A" Radioman School at Jacksonville, Florida
prior to joining VMF-112. Following service with VMF-112, was
transferred to MAG-25 on 4 July 1943 and attended navigation
school. Navigator with VMJ-253 until May 1944. After short stay
in the States, returned to Asiatic-Pacific Theater and served
on Guam as a navigator with VMR-252. Discharged 29 November
1945. Personal military awards include the Navy Commendation
Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. Following the war, attended
University of Iowa on the GI Bill where he was awarded a B.S.
degree in chemical engineering. Worked for Goodyear Tire and
Rubber in Ohio and Nebraska, followed by employment with Union
Carbide nuclear fuels plant (K-25) at Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Final employment prior to retirement was as manager of engineering
at Babcock and Wilcox in Pennsylvania.
