Education: University of Texas
Enter the Marine Corps: 1941 via Naval Aviation Cadet
program.
Died: 30 July 2007, Harlingen, TX
Summary: Designated a Naval Aviator in
February of 1942 at Corpus Christi, Texas where he was commissioned
a Second Lieutenant, USMCR. Posted at Norfolk until he joined
VMF-112. Donahue shot down 9 aircraft over Guadalcanal with
VMF-112. On May 13, 1943 he destroyed five Mitsubishi A6M3 Zeros
in a single engagement. Following his return to the U.S. Donahue
flew another combat tour with VMF-451 off the carrier USS Bunker
Hill. On 12 April 1945 he again achieved 5 aerial victories
in a single engagement over Okinawa. Personal military awards
include the Navy Cross, three Distinguished Flying Crosses and
5 Air Medals. He is credited with 14 confirmed aerial victories.
For the past several years Archie has been active with the Commemorative
Air Force (formerly known as Confederate Air Force) in Harlingen, Texas.
