Summary: Roswell (Ros) Raber served one tour of duty with VMF-112 at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. He was awarded the Air Medal for shooting down two of eighteen enemy planes destroyed on one combat air patrol. Further awards were received subsequent to duty with VMF-112 as he continued service in the Marine Corps throughout the Pacific during World War II. He was placed on the Retired Reserve List at his own request October 18, 1958, with the grade of Lieutenant Colonel. Personal awards include Distinguished Flying Cross (2), Air Medal (7), and Presidential Unit Citation.

Following military service, Ros entered into partnership with his father in an oil field drilling and exploration company. He also flew as a pilot with an oil field drilling mud company. He later served as a field engineer with the Texas Railroad Commission, Oil and Gas Division.

Ros was inducted into the Panhandle Veterans Hall of Fame, Pampa, TX, August 14, 1992, as one of four individuals who have distinguished themselves not only in the defense of this country, but who have also been positive influences on their respective home communities. Active in the Texas Panhandle and Central Texas oil fields, he ended his career following twenty years of employment with the Texas Railroad Commission. He was active in Free Masonry, church work, and sports (golf and bowling). Following retirement to the Tyler, Texas area, he passed away on 23 August 1986, following a short illness. Interment was in Cathedral of the Pines Cemetery, Tyler, Texas.
